INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
Apprentice of the Year
• Coal Apprentice of the Year
• Metalliferous Apprentice of the Year
• Heavy Industry Trainee of the Year
(incorporating extractive, minerals processing and drilling apprentices)
This category is open to all apprentices who are employed in the Australian resources industry and are enrolled as an apprentice or have completed their apprenticeship in the previous 12 months.
• Nominations for the Apprentice of the Year Awards can be made online at www.miskillscentreconference.com.au/awardnominations or by a written response to the criteria listed below.
• Nominations for the Apprentice of the Year Awards are to be made in writing, and must include a response to each of the criteria listed below. Your response to the criteria is limited to:
o Half an A4 page per criteria; and
o Three A4 pages in total.
The entire nomination submission, including supporting documents, must not exceed 15 pages.
Nomination Criteria
The Employer
1. Provide evidence that:
o The employee is contracted under a nationally recognised apprenticeship program or,
o The employee has completed an apprenticeship in the previous 12 months
(if applicable to application)
2. How has the apprentice demonstrated a positive work ethic through:
◊ Consistent safe work behaviours
◊ Motivation
◊ Problem solving, troubleshooting skills
◊ Initiative
◊ Innovation and application on the job
◊ Working effectively with others
4. How has the apprentice applied skills and knowledge, both on and off the job, into the workplace?
5. How has the apprentice applied leadership skills within the work place?
Self Reflection – The Apprentice
1. How have the skills you have gleaned from the training program contributed to your career and personal plans?
2. Describe how the training program has developed your:
◊ Technical skills;
◊ Ability to work within a team;
◊ Applied safe work practices;
◊ Leadership skills; and
◊ Ability to cope with challenges presented in the workplace?
3. Describe one of your most significant work achievements to date.
4. What are your future career aspirations?
5. Why attributes do you have that would make you the ideal Apprentice of the Year?
Other Information
The apprentice may wish to include information on the following in addition to the above:
1. How would you encourage others to do a trade and work in your industry?
2. Provide evidence of your achievement in other activities outside of training?
3. Has the training had an effect of your life/conduct outside of work?
