INDIVIDUAL AWARDS
Trainee of the Year
These Awards acknowledge outstanding achievement and ongoing commitment by trainees in the Australian resources industry.
Coal Trainee of the Year
Metalliferous Trainee of the Year
Heavy Industry Trainee of the Year
(incorporating extractive, minerals processing and drilling Trainees)
To be eligible for nomination in this category, the nominee must have completed, or be due to complete, a structured, accredited training program between August 2009 and August 2010. The program must use the relevant national coal, metalliferous, or heavy industry training package(s).
• Nominations for Trainee Awards can be made online at www.miskillscentreconference.com/awardnominations or by a written response addressing the criteria listed below.
• Nominations for Trainee Awards are to be made in writing, and must include a response to each of the criteria listed below. Your response to the criteria is limited to:
o Half an A4 page per criteria; and
o Three A4 pages in total.
The entire nomination submission, including supporting documents, must not exceed 15 pages.
Nomination Criteria
The Training Program
1. Briefly describe the program, including its:
• Structure (content);
• Duration*; and
• Expected outcomes.
*Duration: the minimum eligible program duration is expected to be 12 months.
2. Provide evidence that the program aligns to a relevant National Training Package.
3. Demonstrate that, upon successful completion of the program, the trainee receives:
• Either a formal qualification or recognition of a relevant industry skills set*; or
• Nationally recognised certification for all completed competencies, whether that constitutes a full qualification or partial completion of a qualification.
*Industry skills set: a set of skills and/or competencies aligning to a specific job role.

4. Describe key attributes displayed by the trainee, in particular, comment on actions that provide evidence of the trainee’s abilities and attitudes in relation to:
• Motivation;
• Team work;
• Work ethic;
• Safe work behaviours;
• Problem solving and reasoning;
• Initiative;
• Innovation and application in the job; and
• Communication.
5. Comment on the trainee’s progression against their training plan and show evidence that the trainee is on track to complete the program within the allotted time-frame.
